Hacking...

Here is the result of my latest hacking session... Hacking the Colledge.... Nani!

I have been working more with Knoppix and I have discovered many more useful features of this OS. I would rather run this than Windows any day.

Just saw those Robot Warriors on FOX news and they remind me of the scenes of the future in Terminator 2. All you need is a computer brain for these machines and they could operate themselves and hunt down enemy snipers and enemy contingents threatening our troops. Having flying Hunter Killer units would be the next step, we could fight wars without threatening the lives of our troops. A T800 exoskeleton would be able to fight more effectively than a human in dangerous conditions and not need to eat or sleep.

Been playing MM2 and I have been able to complete a run of MAP32, a deadly interpretation of D2 MAP07, with added spice. The Addition of Cyber Demons makes it a lot of fun and I have no problems with this map. Another good map is the "Marbelous Three" MAP19 from cchest2.wad. This is an awesome map with set pieces such as crumbling marble architecture with the floor littered with marble blocks. This is like a map I played for Quake2 that was a Quake map that was crumbling and vandalized. I just love the crumbling map look, just like some maps in Gothic DM 2. They had the Quake castle look down pat, but I wish someone could make a Doom2 version of Quake E1M5 and Quake2 E1M1. Maybe even a version of Duke 3D E1M1 would be possible in Edge. Although I have played the Quake 2 version of Quake E1M2 and I could get faster times than Quake since the different physics allowed me to double jump over the Guy at the start and gain some advantage that way. Quake 2's double jumping physics allow many tricks within the game, such as jumping over the blaster troopers in the first map.

I am watching Discovery Channel and they are talking about the weather balloons that were used by the military in America that were mistaken as space ships by the public. The government covered up the use of weather balloons and dug themselves into a hole instead of coming clean about them. If they had, the whole UFO thing might not have been so big right now. But why such secrecy about a crashed weather balloon... It is silly really. Maybe I should just watch American Chopper... That is a top show, better than any other Reality Show out there.

Although the CI channel is very cool too, you have all the crime you can handle, just as much fun as the Law & Order series on TV1. And the Simpsons on FOX, they are my favorite shows. Even though they keep repeating the same series sometimes I still love to watch this series over and over. And Dog the bounty hunter.

Micheal Jackson the alien .

I have just installed a guestbook script on my site. This time it actually works perfectly and I will leave it on as a good way to get feedback on my website. I hope this is not abused, but I would think the visitors to my site would post something insightful versus the idiot posters on Slashdot. Just because they are Anonymous Coward they think they can post whatever they want. The script is much better now that I recoded it to work with the cgi.pm module. Using vanilla Perl to parse the name=value pairs from a form is idiotic. I use CGI for all of my programming as it makes it much easier to parse such data and return the values. See it here My Guestbook. Bad posts will be deleted so no porn links please. E-Mail me them instead ;) Besides I have coded the script to remove HTML so just plain text please.

I have just got Knoppix 3.6 running on my laptop and I have to say I am impressed with this distribution, it shits on Fedora Core 2 from a great height with it's incredible support for a wide range of hardware devices and PCMCIA networking cards. I have a Netgear PCMCIA card in my laptop and a Netgear card in my Linux machine to replace the ancient Digital card, this card used a tulip kernel module to operate, but decided to die on me one day and I replaced it. Now my networking cards both work perfectly @ 100MB and I am very happy. They say network cards can be had for AU$10.00 but I bought a Netgear PCI adapter model FA311 for AU$55.00 and it will be much more reliable.

I tried to run Fedora Core 2 on my laptop, but that was fucking annoying and there are not many packages that come with this distro at all. Knoppix has more software and it is on one CD... Plus knoppix is very cool and includes _everything_ that I need even the notorious '/usr/games/fortune' command and a full install of perl-5.8.3 to boot. I even found a copy of my beloved gcc as well. Very good. Plus sound works and it includes xmms-1.2.10 with modplug, mikmod and a copy of the xine multimedia player, which can be patched easily to play DivX movies and mp3 tracks as well.

I just have to partition the hard disk and I can install it to the disk which will make it much faster and I can then start installing more software using apt-get. The / partition must be greater than 2GB apparently, but I can manage that, and this will be the perfect OS for my laptop. Although Mandrake 10.0 was pretty good with regards to power management, sometimes it would go to sleep and not wake up, but I have read in Linux magazine that this is common, and if I keep an eye on my machine I should be fine. But support for this will only evolve with time. I was using Windows XP recently and I was struck by how far Windows XP is behind even RedHat 6.2 in regards to a good useful Command Line Interface. I wonder if they redesign their CLI by the time Windows Longhorn comes out, although this is supposed to be in 18 months which is a long time in the IT world. Although I am sure the Linux 2.6 Kernel will have evolved significantly since now, so I think Linux will have more of a foothold then I hope. It would be interesting to look back at this post in 18 months and see what has happened. Well, I have installed Knoppix to the hard disk and it is working very well indeed. I have the same hardware support and it is far faster than running from the CDROM. This is the perfect OS for a laptop since it has the best hardware support, especially for USB Flash disks and my afforementioned networking hardware. I could not be happier with Knoppix, it is much better than Xandros Linux with greater variety of applications, and it comes with more than one Window Manager as well. Not everyone wants to run KDE 3.22 even though it is a very nice Window Manager.

I did not need the drivers for my networking hardware either like you might were you running Windowstm XP. I have the two CD's of drivers and I have no need for them. Much like those AOL CD's you get attached to magazine CD's as a sly form of Spam. Surely if they need to market their product this way, the product is substandard? It uses Internet Explorer 6.0 for starters, which is the browser stupid people use which is a conduit for hackers and spyware. I have used it sometimes since version 3.0 and it has never been really good. When Netscape 7.0 was released I much preferred to use that. Sure some webpages may not display properly in Firefox, but that is the fault of the webmaster for coding poor HTML and CSS. People just need to learn how to design a well coded web page instead of uploading templates from Frontpage. It is not that hard at all.

I have setup apt-cdrom with the packages from the first Debian CDROM and I can install packages from the Debian CDROM into the Knoppix installation. This is very good, much better than Xandros and totally suited to desktop use for some enterprising person who wanted a customised desktop OS. On bootup it reports as GNU Debian Linux 3.1. I cannot believe it comes as a compressed file on a CDROM and uncompresses to about 2GB, yet comes with more software than Fedora Core 2 did, and that is on 4 CD's. I tried to install prboom-2.2.6 and the OS did not come with the SDL packages and I could not find them in the package installer at all. I know you could download them off the web with yum or something, but they should be included like they are with Mandrake Linux 10.0. Still, I would rather run Mandrake Linux or Debian than RedHat any day. I prefer the Mandrake Linux 10 KDE package manager as it is searchable which makes it very easy to find which package contains a certain file by searching for that file. The Knoppix Debian 3.1 OS I have comes with xmms-1.2.10 and Window Maker which I am running right now. I can run XMMS and an Xterm running VIM typing this very post, and the Laptop with 64MB of RAM does not skip a beat. Try that with Windows '98 or ME... Not that I would run any of those on any PC now. Hackers love legacy systems that have not been updated in a while. Makes it very easy to get in, that is why Internet Explorer is so loved by the spyware authors. Even Microsoft is ignoring bugs, even the famous bug that only requires 11 Bytes of data imbedded in any webpage to crash IE. What a joke, if only it could take the whole Explorer shell down with it... Something like

if(Internet Explorer)
{
kill->IE(NukeExplorer());
printf("IE Nuked. Have a nice day.");
}
else
{
welcome();
}

But that is not frightening, I was watching my favourite news channel, FOX News and Micheal Jackson was talking about his 'Innocence'. Now that was frightening. I think that Micheal is not a real person and his skin is a suit covering an Alien body, I mean think about it it looks pretty fake to me. Maybe is a scout for an upcoming Alien invasion. I think this is possible, or maybe he is just a freak. I mean he was in MIB 2 as an Alien.
